Sheriff Eric Watson will host an additional Church Security Training due to the overwhelming response yesterday.

Because of the immense number of people who were not able to attend because of limited seating, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office will host an additional opportunity to attend the same training class next Tuesday, November 21, 2017. The training will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the sheriff office’s North Training Room, located at 2290 Blythe Avenue.

Sheriff Watson stated the agency’s seminar had an incredible response and filled up very quickly. He said they always hate to turn people away for classes but in some cases, their space is limited. As a result, a special second seminar will be held for those who were not able to take part.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Impact Cleveland and the Blythe Oldfield neighborhood are planning a big celebration on Saturday. But, there have been some late changes.

The community’s new playground has been completed, and Saturday is a chance for the community’s kids to try it out during the opening of the new city park.

The celebration and the opening of the park was scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m., but changes were made Wednesday afternoon.

Impact Cleveland Director Dustin Tommey said it has been decided to change the times to 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., due to the anticipation of bad weather moving into the area in the early afternoon.

Activities will include food, music, games and a short program. Tommey added that the planned program will also be scaled back somewhat, with the new times and incoming weather.

The Bradley County EMA wants people to be aware of a test happening near the Wacker Chemie plant today around 9 a.m.

This test is being performed to help prepare emergency personnel, drivers, and schools for actual emergency situations like those that have happened in the past few months in Charleston.

Today’s exercise will involve a mock emergency situation in which a planned smoke bomb will go off, emergency vehicles will be on scene, and Walker Valley High School and Charleston Elementary School will be told to shelter in place – to go inside, and stay inside.

Bradley County EMA wants parents to know that there will be no actual emergency, and they should not go to the schools to pick up their children during the drill. Students will be safely on lockdown with staff.

Drivers are encouraged to also stay off of the roads in that area so that agencies can properly perform their duties during the drill.
