Graves with no grass, graves covered in grass, missing vases, and nearby residents said the stench coming from the mausoleum is once again a problem at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family members with loved ones said it’s devastating that the problems continue.

Jim Floyd walks Sunset Memorial Gardens regularly because that’s where his son and granddaughter are laid to rest.

When he visited their graves last week, he said he found them covered with weeds and tall grass.

Floyd said he’s filed a complaint with the state about the condition of the cemetery. So has Tyler Dooley, who has four family members buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dooley lives in the neighborhood behind the gardens. He said the mausoleum, which was part of a 2013 investigation that lead to the cemetery shutting down, is still a problem.

He said in the last couple of weeks the doors have been opened up again to air the building out.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men in separate burglary incidents, one of which deputies say led to a medical emergency.

On April 27, deputies responded to a burglary in progress call at an Ocoee-area home, and say they found Andrew Hayes still on the scene.

When deputies made contact with him, they say Hayes ran into the woods, but they were able to arrest him after a chase

At the home, Polk Co. authorities found a woman who they say had been assaulted. She was airlifted to Chattanooga by LifeForce helicopter.

According to investigators, Hayes broke into the home and woke up the woman. When she asked him why he was there, authorities say he was taking her ATV and attacked her, rendering her unconscious.

Andrew Hayes was taken to Polk County Jail, charged with attempted murder, attempted especially aggravated robbery, and especially aggravated burglary.

The investigation is still underway, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office says more charges are pending against Hayes.

Two days prior, Polk County deputies responded to another burglary call in the area, resulting in the arrest of Brian Price, who has been charged charged with aggravated burglary, theft under $1,000, and burglary of an auto.
