Christy Armstrong reports: Cleveland City Schools Director Dr. Russell Dyer is emphasizing his commitment to the local school district after his was among the names submitted to another district looking for a new director.

A Memphis news organization recently reported Dyer was one of five final candidates being considered to replace current Collierville Schools superintendent John Aitken, who is retiring this summer.

Despite his experience and knowledge of that area, Dyer stressed he is not truly in the running for the Collierville Schools director position.

Autumn Hughes reports: The next steps have been taken in multiple grant opportunities to improve transportation aspects throughout the Cleveland area.

The Cleveland Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and its Technical Coordinating Committee met Wednesday at the Cleveland Municipal Building.

Among the items of business was approval to submit a Notice of Intent to Apply for the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Multi-modal Access Grant program, which provides 95% funding for eligible improvements on state routes.

Types of projects that are eligible for the grant include pedestrian crossing improvements (signage, signalization, median pedestrian refuge islands and crosswalks), shoulders, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and improvements which address requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, among other projects.

The Cleveland community is coming together and organizing a run to show their support for a five-year-old girl battling cancer.

At Terra Running company in Cleveland, they are used to putting on races all over southeastern Tennessee.

The 5-k and 1 mile race they are helping with now is for Olivia Weatherford. The five-year-old was diagnosed for stage four neuroblastoma in April.

She is currently undergoing treatment in Memphis.

It will take place this Saturday at Greenway Park. Money raised will go to Olivia’s family. Camill Howard, an organizer, says she felt it was important to do something to help because she knows Olivia’s parents.
