A CLEVELAND WOMAN was seriously injured when her automobile struck a tractor-trailer on APD 40 Wednesday afternoon. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Cameron Azbill, who investigated the accident, apparently the woman, identified by THP reports as Alise Waters, may have had a medical issue that caused her to drive through the median and into the path of the truck driven by James Christian of Rock Spring, Ga. The front of her 2015 Nissan sustained major damage. Waters, 53, had to be flown by Life Force to Erlanger, where she was listed in critical condition.

Student athletes at Lee University wanted to help grant a wish for a young person in the area. They found a way to do that, appropriately, through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
To grant such a wish, it takes about $10,000, and the student athletes knew that was a daunting task, but one that they were going to try their hardest to accomplish. Accomplish it they did, as the Lee University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee was able to raise $11,407.
The Lee University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee had set a goal of raising $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year.
Larry Carpenter, Lee’s athletic director, found it easy to praise the student athletes involved in the project.
“I am so proud of the SAAC members and the job they did raising funds for the Make a Wish Foundation,” said Carpenter. “They set a very ambitious goal and worked extremely hard throughout the year to accomplish it.

In honor of those who gave their lives in the line of duty, the Cleveland Police Department is remembering one of their own on this National Police Week.
Officer Justin Maples died in a wreck on South Lee Highway on May 20, 2012, while responding to assist another officer. He has served as a lasting memory of how law enforcement personnel put their lives on the line each day to serve and protect the public.
A small stretch of 25th Street near the intersection with Interstate 75 bears Maples’ name, so he will be remembered. A plaque honoring the fallen officer is located at the Cleveland Police Department and his name is listed on the Bradley/Cleveland Memorial Wall, in the remembrance area at the Bradley County Fire-Rescue headquarters building and the Museum Center at Five Points.
A special memorial service for Maples will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday, at the Memorial Wall. It is believed that members of Maples family will be in attendance, as well as many of the officers who worked with him during his time at the Cleveland Police Department.
The general public is also invited to attend the short memorial service, to show appreciation to law enforcement personnel for what they do every day, and to those who have died in the line of duty.
