In news today…

Corey Limberg has been named as the new Ocoee Middle School principal. Limberg, the former principal of Valley View, replaces the retiring Ron Spangler. Spangler lead the school through to its new era from Bradley Junior High School to Ocoee Middle school. No word yet on Limbergs replacement at Valley View.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Motorists are able to move along highway 64 through the Ocoee River Gorge today, despite the wreck of a tanker truck that plunged into the river on Tuesday.

Traffic had been halted along the crash site Tuesday evening, and all day Wednesday, due to concerns from the spilling of more than half of the tanker’s load of gasoline and diesel fuel.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation had personnel at the crash site helping with traffic, and late Wednesday opened one lane to through motorists.

It is expected the roadway may not be completely opened to traffic for two to three days, due to the extensive cleanup required for the fuel spill.

The tanker truck is owned by Pilot Mountain, a North Carolina-based petroleum transport company.

It was driven by Glenn Morris of Hixson, who sustained minor injuries Tuesday when he apparently lost control of the rig, which ran off the winding roadway, down the embankment and into the river. The tanker end up on its side in the waterway. Morris was later treated for his injuries.

Officials expressed hope that both lanes of traffic would be opened through the gorge soon, perhaps by this weekend.

Also from The Banner…

A state nominating commission’s interviews have been completed among a group of finalists for the job of Tennessee Bureau of Investigation director, and one of those hopefuls still in the running is former Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble.

Current TBI Director Mark Gwyn is set to retire in June.

Gwyn has served as director for 14 years and was reappointed in 2016  by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam. He has served 30 years in law enforcement.

Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch and TBI Deputy Director Jason Locke are also in the mix for the director’s seat.

No information has been provided as to when Haslam will announce his decision.

And finally, the Cleveland Daily Banner reports…

An early morning accident that resulted in an injury occurred near mile marker 25 on Interstate Highway 75 early Thursday.

According to Sgt. Alan Bailey of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, two vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened at approximately 5:35 a.m.

One driver was transported by ambulance to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga for treatment of minor injuries, reports said. Traffic was reduced to one lane while the THP worked to clear the road. It was reopened at 7:02 a.m.
