From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Kaitlin Gebby reports: Bradley County Schools director Dr. Linda Cash has earned the Outstanding Administrator Award from the Tennessee Music Education Association.

The announcement was made over Twitter in a letter from TMEA’s former president Dr. Johnathan Vest. He told Cash the board selected her for her dedication to the arts and integrating them into her school system’s curriculum.

On any given night or weekend, Cash can be found attending an elementary musical, a regional high school band competition or a middle school show choir event, a statement from the school district said.

In news today…

During the regular voting meeting of the Bradley County Board of Education yesterday, director of schools Dr. Linda Cash discussed the possibility of sports teams restarting in late May or the first part of June. Initially, teams can only meet in groups of ten. At the end of June, the situation will be re-evaluated based on the governor’s orders.

The board approved the 2020-21 budget with a 6 to 0 vote. In the budget, no teachers will be laid off, but there will be no salary increases. Three budget amendments were also passed 7 to 0.

The board also approved a new four-year, $1 millsion janitorial contract with ABM. During the June meeting, the board will review the director’s evaluation and Dr. Cash’s contract.

Donna Frances Dunn Almazon has been taken into custody by Bradley County Sheriff’s Office deputies on charges of Aggravated Assault after she stabbed a female victim in her front yard. The victim received medical treatment for her injury and is recovering.

On Tuesday, May 12, BCSO deputies responded to a residence on 10th Street NE in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies observed one female victim lying down, bleeding from her stomach from an apparent knife wound. Victim and witness advised deputies that Almazon, who lives next door, had stabbed her. Deputies called for EMS and the victim was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Through their investigation, detectives from the BCSO Person’s Crime Division discovered that after a physical altercation, Almazon stabbed the victim in the abdomen.

Due to consistent statements made by all parties and witnesses, Donna Almazon has been charged with Aggravated Assault and is in custody at the Bradley County Jail.
