The labor force estimates for May are in. The United States unemployment rate since April has remained unchanged, at 4.1%. The unemployment rate for Tennessee has improved, and for May is down to 2.9% from 3.7% in April.

Moving closer to home, the unemployment rate for Cleveland MSA, which includes Bradley and Polk Counties, was 2.9% in May. This is down from 3.6% in April.

Statewide, it appears most statistical areas saw either a reduction in or no change to the unemployment rate.

Business interest in Bradley County remains high according to a report given to the Industrial Development Board during their meeting on Tuesday.

Doug Berry, vice president of economic development for the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, said the last few months have been “very busy” for his office.

He said the largest lead is a $365 million investment with the potential of 400 jobs.

He said another has the potential investment of $55 million with 600 jobs and is also a Spring Branch submission.

Berry said have been five companies with which he has been in discussions with since the beginning of the year.
