Topping our news today…

The Bradley County Schools Board of Education met on Thursday and approved step raises for county school teachers. The issue had been previously set aside in April due to uncertainty dealing with the coronavirus. There was fear that the needed funding may not come in and thus the board voted to wait until a later time. The latest report shows that sales tax revenue was higher than expected, as well as insurance only increasing by 2% when it was expected to increase by 4%. As a result, the step raises were approved to begin in September, which is when these raises normally go into effect. The board also approved the $13.5 million budget for construction of the PIE Center, which will begin on September 1st. It is expected that 32% of the subcontract work will be completed by local businesses. The Board also approved an extra $500,000 for the repair of two school roofs – the main one being at Charleston Elementary School.
