Also, one lucky student will win $100.

Again, this is all happening tomorrow, August 19th, from 10AM until 2PM at the Cleveland Family YMCA. For more information on the Mix 104-1 Family Expo, presented by Tennova Healthcare, visit mymix1041.com.

From WRCB Channel 3…

In less than a month, parole board members will decide whether a convicted killer from Cleveland will be released.

Larry Kelley was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-wife, Brenda Wilson, outside of a church in 1990. This is his second time up for parole.

Nearly 27 years have gone by, but time has not healed the Wilson family’s wounds. They said the upcoming parole hearing brings back bad memories.

Brenda and Larry were married for two and a half years. They divorced seven months before he killed her.

Brenda had filed an order of protection against him, but he violated it in December of 1990. He shot her in a church parking lot in Cleveland.

Larry Kelley tried to plead temporary insanity, but the jury didn’t buy it.

They found him guilty of first degree murder in 1991. He was sentenced to life in prison.

He’s being held at the Morgan County Correctional Complex in Wartburg.

There’s a chance Kelley could become a free man. Parole board members will consider that option for the second time. The parole hearing will be on September 11th.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Savings to the Bradley County Schools through energy-related renovations have led the Bradley County Commission to look at the same work at some government buildings.

These buildings include the Bradley County Courthouse, Bradley County Courthouse Annex and the Bradley County Judicial Complex.

Kevin Waters of ESG, the company that has worked on the county schools, presented plans to improve all three buildings, with both the courthouse and annex “having a whole host of issues.”

Waters said showed heating units for all three buildings, and concentrated on the bathrooms at the courthouse and the entire annex. Issues with the windows at both buildings were one of the items that were discussed for repair and renovation.

The courthouse annex presented the most need for transformation and renovation, he said. He showed photos of areas of the basement that were in need of improvement, Waters said.

The judicial complex is the newest of the three buildings, and Waters said one might think it does not need renovations. However, he said that energy controls for heat and air and lighting would make the building much more usable, and, again, would lead to a savings in energy costs.

The presentation on the renovations of the three buildings was made to the county commission’s land and building committee. The group said it would need to go before the finance committee since it would involve additional funding.

The land and building committee voted to place the proposal on the Aug. 28 work session for more discussion.
