From NewsChannel 9:UPDATE (Monday morning):

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the plane crash in an email Monday morning:

A single-engine Cessna 182 crashed near Reliance, Tennessee, around 7:30 p.m. local time Sunday, May 7. Only the pilot was on board,’ spokesperson Mina Kaji tells us.

The email does not indicate directly whether the pilot survived, but it also says “Contact local authorities for the pilot’s name and medical condition.”

We are working to pin that detail down right now, and we’ll update this story once we do.

The email also does not say which location the pilot took off from, or where the pilot was headed.

Kaji says the FAA will post a preliminary accident/incident report in the next day or so.
