The Cleveland City Council met on Monday to cover several items of business. The Fiscal Year 2023 budget presentation was made, with the proposed budget being balanced and with no tax increases included. The new budget serves police, fire, roads, infrastructure, and many other items, including a 3.5% salary increase for eligible employees. The Police Department has requested new cameras to automatically detect license plates, which can use a shared database if the city becomes a member of the system. There are protocols in place to protect personal information and civil liberties. This same system is used in Chattanooga. The Council also voted to observe Juneteenth as a holiday on Monday, June 20th. As a result, city offices will be closed on this day.
