Last night the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce held its 97th Annual Meeting.

The event was held at Westmore Church of God and highlighted the programs and accomplishments of the past year, including the biggest investment in the history of the City of Cleveland- SK foods at $205 million, announced earlier this month. The Chamber also honored local business leaders with two of the Chamber’s most prestigious awards.

Dwight Richardson, an Affiliate Broker with Bender Realty and owner/designer of Fenimore’s Floral Design Studio, was honored as the recipient of the 2023 Robert W. Varnell Jr. Leadership Award.

The award, presented in memory of the late Robert W. Varnell Jr., recognizes a person demonstrating excellence in leadership and profession, commitment to community, religion, high morals, and ethical standards.

The 2023 M.C. Headrick Free Enterprise Award, one of the highest awards given by the Chamber, was presented to Roger Pickett. Pickett is the owner and operator of MurMaid Mattress, a local family-owned and operated mattress retail chain that offers national brand mattresses, as well as their own brand made locally and sold directly to the consumer.

The M.C. Headrick Free Enterprise Award honors the memory of M.C. Headrick. Honorees receiving this award must display success, high morals, growth of business, and contributions to community-oriented projects.

Also during the meeting, The Chairman’s gavel was passed from Tim Henderson chairman and CEO of Cleveland Utilities to the new chairman Brad Benton, the owner of Baskin-Robbins.
