The Bradley County School Board met last night for their December meeting.
Melissa Presswood addressed the board about a Hazard Mitigation Grant from FEMA and how the grant if awarded to Bradley County Schools, could help the school system save money on the new science wing at Bradley Central High School. The new wing would not only be used academically but also serve as a safety room for the community and students. Securing the grant would mean the Federal Government will pay for 90% of the project. The system has been working with the County Mayor and Emergency Management on the grant process.
A proposal to obtain Cornerstone Management Group LLC for consulting services passed 7-0. The contract would allow the school system to retain the services of Corbett Drew for an extended period at a reduced rate through the end of June of 2023. Mr. Drew currently manages construction projects for the PIE Center.
A motion to conduct an Elementary School Capacity Study also passed 7-0. Cope Architecture will evaluate programs, and space, assess the needs of individual schools, and make recommendations on the prioritization of capital projects.
The next meeting of the Bradley County School Board is on January 12th.
