A Davidson County jury finds Benjamin Brewer guilty of causing the 2015 crash on I-75 that killed six people and hurt six others.

Jurors deliberated for six hours before finding Brewer guilty of six counts of Vehicular Homicide by Intoxication, four counts of Reckless Aggravated Assault, Driving Under the Influence and Speeding.

Brewer hung his head slightly as the verdicts were read while family members of the victims quietly cried in the courtroom.

Lead Defense Attorney Mike Little declined to comment after the verdict.

Brewer will be sentenced on March 12, 2018. He faces up to 72 years behind bars.

A lot of this case centered around science, from reconstructing the scene to the drug tests.

The families of the victims declined to comment after the verdict.

With more than $9 million of infrastructure on the boards, there has to be something in downtown Cleveland to draw people to the town’s center.

The redevelopment of the downtown area is one of the three main parts of projects picking up speed for the city.

Cleveland City Manager Joe Fivas noted redeveloping downtown was the second highest scoring priority expressed by city residents during community meetings last year.

To that end, the council voted to employ WSP Consultants at a cost of no greater than $399,000 for development of design plans and market studies to aid in that redevelopment.

As part of the city’s strategy, Fivas said one of the items topping that list concerns the revitalization of Inman Street, from Keith Street to East Street.

He said the city needs to employ a professional consultant for a detailed revitalization and market study.

Fivas said with the finalization of the city’s purchase of the former Cherokee Hotel property, more commonly referred to as the Summit, the city is working on a project plan to present to the city council next month.
